The Journey to the new album:
The journey to this latest release has not been an easy one. With the loss of Toronto local guitar icon Bruce Adamson, his long-time friend and keystone member of his band, The Eddy Line, in 2015, plans for a follow up to 2012’s release, Northern Bliss, were laid aside. Ellis continued to write and participate in the Toronto music scene generally performing close to home due to his commitment to his other love – teaching music at Morse Street Public School in downtown Toronto. Eventually, Tyler and two of the remaining members of The Eddy Line, drummer Gary Edwards and bassist Howard Rabkin, along with guitarist John McLean (who had played bass on Tyler’s critically acclaimed first release, Straid Hill, 1994) decided to get to work. 2017 was a year of rehearsing and performing focused specifically on fine tuning 40+ songs to be considered for the record. March of 2018 the band enlisted the help of Doug McClement of Livewire Remote Recording, a Canadian Icon in his own right, who has worked with a who’s who of Canadian and international music royalty; and, who recorded Ellis’ first release in 1994. McClement and the band spent 4 days at Straid Hill (Ellis’ family farm in Northumberland County) and captured the songs live-off-the-floor. The remainder of 2018 and 2019 was spent tweaking, adding some contributions from some notable Canadian musicians, mixing the songs in the Live Wire Remote 18 wheeler studio in a downtown warehouse and then releasing the album one season at a time with three dimensional artwork covers created by Tyler’s son, Jake Ellis.
